Utah is the 45th coin issued as part of the 50 State Quarters program and the fifth coin issued in 2007. Utah, admitted to the Union on January 4, 1896, had a coin theme of "Crossroads of the West." It depicts two locomotives heading towards the golden spike connecting the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railroads. President William J. Clinton was in office when the law was signed into law. Three U.S. Mint directors served under President Clinton; David J. Rider of Idaho, Philip N. Diehl of Texas, and Jay W. Johnson of Wisconsin.
