A 1985 coin issued for the 85th birthday of the Queen Mother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, wife of George VI and mother of Elizabeth II, one of the best-loved figures of the British monarchy. The Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown Dependency in the Irish Sea. Its crowns are legal tender on the island but are not released into circulation: they are coins made for collectors from the outset, struck by the private British Pobjoy Mint. The obverse bears a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The issue exists in several varieties with different reverse designs, distinguished by Krause number.
