A 1983 coin devoted to the first British jet aircraft, the Gloster E.28/39 with Frank Whittle’s engine. The Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown Dependency in the Irish Sea. Its crowns are legal tender on the island but are not released into circulation: they are coins made for collectors from the outset, struck by the private British Pobjoy Mint. The obverse bears a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
