One note for several countries: the CFA franc of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) circulated in every member state of the union, and the country for which a note was printed is shown by the letter K — Senegal.
The front shows a carved wooden mask, a herd of humped zebu cattle and a herdsman. The back shows a palm tree, an aerial view of a village and another mask: cattle herding, rural life and traditional carving on a single note.
This type was printed by the French firm François-Charles Oberthur Fiduciaire; held to the light, the paper shows a woman’s head in profile. The 1985 note bears the signatures of Abdoulaye Fadiga and Mamadou Touré.
In a CFA franc collection this is the Senegalese position of a design issued in six country varieties, and the masks and zebu herd also make it stand out in an «African art on banknotes» set. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
For those who collect banknotes by subject, whether wildlife, architecture or famous people, the VPcoins catalogue offers other themed issues too.
