The land and the islanders’ labour are the main theme of Vanuatu’s polymer 1,000 vatu. The back shows farmers with their harvest and a rider herding cattle, next to a flower and a map of the archipelago: farming and ranching appear as the everyday work of the islands’ people.
The front shows a Melanesian chief with a spear, the figure from the national coat of arms, together with a conch shell and the outline of the islands. This front composition is shared by the polymer series, while each denomination has its own back.
The Reserve Bank of Vanuatu introduced the series of 200, 1,000 and 2,000 vatu on 9 June 2014; it was printed by the French company Oberthur Fiduciaire. The 1,000 vatu appeared with the dates 2014 and 2020, and the first two digits of the serial number give the year of issue — on this variety the serial begins with 20.
The 2020-dated variety complements the first 2014 printing in a collection, and for an «Agriculture» theme it offers a scene of harvest and cattle ranching. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
