Dedicated to an ancient historical and military-architectural monument, one of the most original fortifications of the late Middle Ages in Central Europe. The castle was built in the southwest of modern Mukachevo on a mountain of volcanic origin at an altitude of 188 m above sea level and 68 m above the central part of the city. For centuries, it reliably protected the city residents from enemies. Trade and military strategic routes crossed here, running from south to north, from west to east, for the protection of which the castle was founded. During its existence, the stronghold was rebuilt and improved more than once.
The obverse of the coin features a stylized image of the castle courtyard; at the top, against the background of the brick entrance gate, is the small State Emblem of Ukraine, under which is the inscription UKRAINE; below: against the background of paving stones - denomination 10, on a mirror background the inscription: HRYVEN and the year of minting of the coin - 2019.
On the reverse of the coin there is: at the top Palanok Castle, at the bottom - a stylized reflection in the water of the old castle (image from ancient engravings), in the center - a stylized image of a well into which an ancient coin was thrown, from which circles of water radiate; left and right inscriptions: PALANO CASTLE; in a circle - masonry separated by chains.
