Dedicated to a representative of the Aquiformes series, the only endemic subspecies of the Black Sea equestrian in the fauna of Ukraine, whose distribution area is the Azov and Black Seas.

On the obverse of the coin, framed by a wreath formed from images of individual species of flora and fauna, there is a small State Emblem of Ukraine and inscriptions in four lines: on a silver coin - UKRAINE, 10 HRYVEN, 2003, as well as the designation of the metal and its purity - Ag 925, clean weight – 31.1; and the National Bank Mint logo.

On the reverse of the coin there is a picture of a sea horse, around there are circular inscriptions: SEA HORSE BLACK SEA and HIPPOCAMPUS GUTTULATUS MICROSTEPHANUS
