The "Archangel Michael" bullion coin dated 2017 is a Ukrainian silver coin of 999 fineness containing one troy ounce of fine metal, weighing 31.1 g. The reverse shows Archangel Michael as a warrior in full armour with a sword in his right hand, encircled by an inscription on the strength of Archangel Michael drawn from Taras Shevchenko's poem "Haidamaky". The obverse carries the state coat of arms of Ukraine, the legend НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ, the emblem of the National Bank and the face value. Struck at the NBU Banknote Printing and Minting Works since 2011, the series remains Ukraine's principal bullion programme: the price of these coins tracks their metal content rather than numismatic rarity. Archangel Michael, patron of Kyiv and leader of the heavenly host, also appears in the insignia of Ukraine's armed forces.
