2018 was one of the heaviest years for Turkish small change: the Mint struck some 265.4 million lira coins, 220.4 million 5 kuruş and about 120 million 50 kuruş. This set gathers all six denominations of that year — 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 kuruş and 1 lira.
The series entered circulation in 2009, when the word «new» was dropped from the name of the Turkish currency. The obverses show the profile of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and TÜRKİYE CUMHURİYETİ; the reverses carry the star and crescent and a design of their own for each value, from the snowdrop on the kuruş to the Bosphorus bridge on the 50 kuruş. The 50 kuruş and 1 lira are bimetallic, the rest brass and nickel brass.
The set offers a full single-year run that can no longer be assembled from pocket change: in 2023 Turkey switched to lighter coins, closing the 2009-2022 type. UNC grade — the coins never circulated, show no wear and keep their mint lustre.
