The coin shows the Bosphorus Bridge, yet by 2018 the bridge carried a different official name. After the coup attempt of 15 July 2016 it was renamed the 15 July Martyrs Bridge, while the design of the 50 kuruş stayed unchanged.
The reverse shows the bridge over the strait where Europe meets Asia, on a textured map, with the crescent and star above. The obverse has Mustafa Kemal Atatürk facing left and TÜRKİYE CUMHURİYETİ. The coin is bimetallic: a brass centre in a copper-nickel ring.
The 2018 mintage was 120,070,500, one of the larger figures for the 2009–2022 type; by comparison, 2013 saw only 45.5 million. The bridge itself, opened in 1973, carries around 200,000 vehicles a day.
UNC means the coin bypassed circulation: no wear, die lustre retained. In a 50 kuruş date run this is a late date of the type that gave way to a lighter coin in 2023.
