Tunisia’s smallest denomination took on a large mission at the turn of the century: the 2000 millime carries the FAO motto «XXI CENTURY · FOOD SECURITY» around its rim.
The coin was issued only in 1999 and 2000 as a circulating commemorative under the programme of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization. The obverse is taken up by a tree with «البنك المركزي التونسي» (Central Bank of Tunisia) and the date; the reverse has the numeral 1 framed by sprigs and the Arabic «مليم واحد» (one millime).
The tree continues the line of the first republican millime of 1960, yet the FAO coin is larger and devotes its reverse to the dedication instead of olive sprigs. It has since been demonetised.
Grade AU-UNC: on the border between about uncirculated and uncirculated, with virtually no traces of circulation and mint lustre retained. For an FAO topical collection it is a convenient way to hold the small denomination in a state where every legend is clear.
If you collect coins by country or by theme, take a look at the VPcoins catalogue: it is a convenient place to find the neighbouring pieces of a series.
