Tiraspol is the town most often featured in the «Orthodox Churches of Pridnestrovie» series: after St Nicholas Cathedral and the churches of St Andrew the First-Called and of the Intercession, this coin became the fourth from the capital. Its subject is the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ, shown with the date «2000» above it.
The Transnistrian Republican Bank released the rouble on 6 November 2019, less than a month after the St Michael the Archangel Cathedral of Rybnitsa. Around the reverse run «SOBOR ROZHDESTVA KHRISTOVA» and «g. TIRASPOL»; the obverse carries the republic’s coat of arms, the bank’s name, the denomination «1 RUBL» and the date «2019».
The bank returned to this cathedral later: in 2023 a rouble marking the 25th anniversary of the Tiraspol-Dubossary Diocese depicted the diocesan administration building together with the Nativity Cathedral. The two coins make a natural pair for anyone collecting the churches of Tiraspol.
Issuer catalogue number 10400-01-02010, mintage 50,000; this is the tenth coin of the series.
UNC condition: never in circulation, no wear, mint lustre intact; minor storage marks are possible.
A coin in a collection is a reason to learn more about history, and the VPcoins catalogue offers many such reasons.
