In 2018 the 10 baht, the highest denomination among Thailand’s circulating coins, appeared for the first time with the portrait of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, Rama X.
The reverse shows the crowned royal monogram formed by the Thai letters «W-P-R», the cipher of Rama X, surrounded by «Thailand», the Buddhist-era year 2561 and the denomination. Wat Arun used to occupy this place. The obverse carries the king’s left-facing portrait and the legend «Maha Vajiralongkorn, Rama X».
Coins of the new type were struck by the Korean corporation KOMSCO in Daejeon, with a first-year mintage of 275,738,500. The bimetallic construction was retained: a centre of copper, aluminium and nickel alloy in a copper-nickel ring, and an edge divided into fifteen segments of five reeds each.
Together with the baht of the same year, the coin opens the Rama X date run. The grade is UNC: the coin has never circulated, shows no wear and retains its mint luster.
This coin is one of the items in the VPcoins catalogue, which brings together commemorative, circulation and bullion coins from around the world.
