The 1 diram is one hundredth of a somoni and the smallest Tajik coin, just 14.5 mm across. Together with the 2 diram it first appeared in the series dated 2011, a decade after the first somoni coins, and this set unites both newcomers of that issue.
One side of both coins carries the State Emblem of Tajikistan, a crown beneath an arc of seven stars, with the legend «Republic of Tajikistan» in Tajik; the other shows the value beside elements of a national ornament. Both coins are yellow; the 2 diram measures 16 mm.
In a Tajikistan date run the pair fills two slots at once, and both are one-year types: the 1 and 2 diram of the 2011 design are known only with this date, and the next coins of these values came out in 2019 with a new design.
Grade UNC: the coins never circulated, show no wear and keep their mint lustre; only minor storage marks are acceptable. The country’s two lowest denominations in this state make a neat opening for the Tajikistan page of an album.
A coin in a collection is a reason to learn more about history, and the VPcoins catalogue offers many such reasons.
