The 50-cent note of 1949 was born together with the New Taiwan dollar. On 15 June 1949 the provincial authorities carried out a currency reform, exchanging 40,000 old yuan for one new, and on the same day the Bank of Taiwan put this fractional note into circulation.
The note is vertical, like all early New Taiwan dollar issues: the Bank of Taiwan began issuing horizontal notes only in 1960. The face bears Sun Yat-sen; the back shows the Bank of Taiwan building above a map of the island.
Bank of Taiwan notes circulated until 30 June 2002, after which they were exchanged for Central Bank money.
Born with the New Taiwan dollar, it is the starting point of any Taiwan collection and an example of vertical format for an «unusual banknote formats» set. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
A collection can grow in any direction, and the VPcoins catalogue has options for each of them.
