Sugar cane on a scalloped 10 cents of 1986: a design Swaziland carried over to the coins of the young King Mswati III, crowned in April that year. The copper-nickel coin with eight notches in its rim kept the shape of the first 1974 series, while the obverse received the first portrait of the new monarch.
The type was struck with the dates 1986 and 1992 at the Royal Mint in Llantrisant. The 1986-dated coins have a quirk of their own: 3,000,000 of them were only struck in 1990, so the year on the coin does not match the year it was made.
In 2016 the Central Bank withdrew all coins of the old designs, and the copper-nickel 10 cents of Mswati III passed into history. In a date run this piece stands for the first year of the new reign.
The F-VF grade sits between F and VF: wear on the relief is pronounced, but the portrait, sugar cane and legends remain legible.
