After almost 20 million coins in 1976, a record for the 1970s, the 1977 mintage of the 20 cents returned to its usual level of about 7.1 million. 3,500 collector proofs were issued with the «sm» mark of the Singapore Mint.
The first series design is recognisable at a glance: a swordfish with its long sword-like bill swims to the right above the waves, and on the other side the value «20 CENTS» is surrounded by rice stalks. The design is by Stuart Devlin.
Grade F-VF: the coin has circulated and the high points are rubbed, but the date «1977», the numerals and the fish’s outline read confidently. It is the missing link in a date run between the plentiful years 1976 and 1979.
