Studenica, shown on the 10 dinars of 2007, is called the mother of Serbian churches: the monastery was founded by Grand Župan Stefan Nemanja in the late 12th century, shortly after he abdicated.
The monastery’s main church, dedicated to the Virgin, is faced with white marble and blends Romanesque and Byzantine features, the combination that became the Raška school of Serbian architecture. On the coin the church is captioned «СТУДЕНИЦА» next to the value «ДИНАРА • DINARA»; the other side bears the great coat of arms of the Republic of Serbia with Cyrillic and Latin legends.
Type KM# 41 was struck from 2005. The first year produced 5,099,500 coins, while the 2007 mintage was 1,050,500, almost five times lower. Studenica has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1986, which makes the coin a natural fit for a collection devoted to sites on that list.
UNC condition: the coin never circulated, the relief shows no wear and the mint lustre is intact.
