Gold in the 85 kg class at the V Commonwealth Youth Games went to Samoan weightlifter Maeu Nanai Livi, a home win on a home platform. This pack of the commemorative 2015 50 sene is dedicated to weightlifting.
Apia hosted the Games from 5 to 11 September 2015; the weightlifters, like the boxers, swimmers, squash players and bowlers, competed at the Faleata Sports Complex. The programme had nine sports in all, two more than the previous Games.
For the Games the Central Bank of Samoa issued a 50 sene with the logo and the inscription «V COMMONWEALTH YOUTH GAMES»; the obverse shows head of state Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi. The Royal Australian Mint struck 2,700 coins, divided among nine packs, one for each sport.
For a collection it is a commemorative coin with a Samoan success story of its own. Uncirculated: the coin never circulated, shows no wear and keeps its mint lustre.
For those who collect coins by subject, whether wildlife, architecture, famous people or sport, the VPcoins catalogue offers other themed issues too.
