The five riyals of 1996 are devoted not to oil or the sea but to the land: the back shows greenhouses, crops and sheep. The farming of a desert country became the main subject of an entire note.
The front carries the state emblem of Qatar: a sailing dhow, two palm trees and crossed swords. The note belongs to the 1996 series, in which the values from 1 to 500 riyals were issued in the name of the Qatar Central Bank.
The Pick catalogue lists two variants of this note, and the difference is hidden inside the paper, in the microtext of the security thread. On P15b the thread reads QATAR CENTRAL BANK, on the earlier P15a the name of the former monetary authority.
The note fills the P15b slot in Qatar's 1996 series and suits a thematic collection on agriculture and farm animals on the world's money. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
