A fortress above the canyon of the Smotrych River, first mentioned in documents in 1374, is the subject of this 2025 three-rouble coin from the Transnistrian series Ancient Fortresses on the Dniester.
The reverse shows Kamianets-Podilskyi Castle in the centre, with «КАМЕНЕЦ-ПОДОЛЬСКАЯ КРЕПОСТЬ» in two lines along the upper rim. The obverse carries the state emblem of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, the denomination «3 РУБЛЯ», the bank’s name and the year «2025».
The castle stands on a peninsula carved out by a bend of the Smotrych and is linked to the town by a bridge locals call the Turkish bridge. Seven of its original twelve towers survive. In 1672 Kamianets surrendered to the army of Sultan Mehmed IV and for 27 years served as the base of Ottoman rule in Podolia; in 2007 the castle was named one of the Seven Wonders of Ukraine in a nationwide competition.
The Transnistrian Republican Bank issued the coin on 22 September 2025 with a mintage of 5,000, the first of four fortresses that year; Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, Soroca and Khotyn followed, while Bender and Tiraspol had opened the series in 2021. UNC condition: never circulated, no wear, mint lustre intact.
Coins from the VPcoins catalogue are collected by seasoned numismatists and newcomers alike.
