A woman with a jug and a cotton plant: on the 5 guaraníes of 1992 Paraguay portrayed an ordinary Paraguayan woman and one of the crops of its fields. The obverse shows a half-length figure holding a jug with the caption «MUJER PARAGUAYA» («Paraguayan woman»); the reverse a cotton plant and the motto «ALIMENTOS PARA EL MUNDO» («Food for the world»).
The motto ties the coin to the programme of the FAO, the UN food and agriculture organisation. In the Paraguayan series each denomination has its own subject: a soldier and soybean on the 1 guaraní, General Garay and a cow on the 10, and among the military portraits the female figure on the 5 stands out.
In 1992 the coin was struck in a yellow nickel alloy instead of the stainless steel of earlier years, with a mintage of 15 million pieces. In 2014 it was withdrawn from circulation along with the other older issues.
UNC condition: the coin never circulated, its relief is untouched by wear and the mint lustre is preserved. A good choice for topical collections on women and agriculture on coins.
