Ear tufts, a short tail and broad paws that keep it on top of the snow make the lynx recognisable at a glance, and in 2021 it joined the opening four of the fantasy «CHATS SAUVAGES» series of 3 francs inscribed «TROMELIN». This is a private issue with no state behind it: Tromelin strikes no money of its own, and catalogues treat such pieces as fantasy coins.

The lynx in colour fills one side together with the legend «CHATS SAUVAGES 2021», French for «wild cats». The other side bears a coat of arms, the island’s name and the value «3 francs».

There are four lynx species: the Eurasian, Canada and Iberian lynx and the bobcat of North America. The island named on the piece lies east of Madagascar; France administers it, while Mauritius and the Seychelles dispute its sovereignty.

In the first year of the series the lynx was joined by a black panther and two tigers. Uncirculated grade: the piece has never circulated.
