The 50 baisa is the largest of the four coins with which Oman marked its 45th National Day in 2015, and on its obverse the sultan’s name and title are written as a single line: «قابوس بن سعيد - سلطان عمان».
The rest of the obverse follows the series layout: the value in English and Arabic, «50 BAISA» and «٥٠ بيسة», the name «SULTANATE OF OMAN» and the dates «١٤٣٧» and «2015». The reverse shows the emblem in a circle amid a geometric pattern, the anniversary «٤٥» and the inscription «العيد الوطني الخامس والاربعون المجيد», «the glorious forty-fifth National Day».
The forty-five years are counted from 1970, when Sultan Qaboos bin Said came to power; he ruled until 2020. The coin is white, nickel-plated steel like the regular 50 baisa of the time, and it circulated on equal terms with them.
This denomination closes the 2015 anniversary row of small change, so the series is incomplete without it. In UNC grade the coin never circulated: no wear, mint lustre intact, with only minor storage marks possible.
Coins from the VPcoins catalogue are collected by seasoned numismatists and newcomers alike.
