The hundred baisa of 1994 show Oman turned towards the sea: the back features Port Qaboos, which bears the sultan's name. The subject passed into the new series from the 1977 issue, but now Qaboos himself appears alongside it.
The Central Bank of Oman series of the late 1980s is built around one face: on the right of the front is a portrait of Sultan Qaboos bin Said, who came to power on 23 July 1970, the arms of Oman sit above the centre, and the watermark again shows the sultan. The date is given twice, in the Hijri and the Gregorian calendars.
The Pick catalogue distinguishes four varieties of this note by date, from 1987 to 1994; the 1994 example is listed as P22d.
For an Oman collection the note fills a date slot in the P22 run, and together with the 1977 hundred baisa it shows Port Qaboos passing from issue to issue. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
You can find companions for this banknote, by series or by year of issue, in the VPcoins catalogue.
