The one rial of 1994 shows the Oman of fortresses: the back features Sohar Fort.
The Central Bank of Oman series of the late 1980s is built around one face: on the right of the front is a portrait of Sultan Qaboos bin Said, who came to power on 23 July 1970, the arms of Oman sit above the centre, and the watermark again shows the sultan. The date is given twice, in the Hijri and the Gregorian calendars.
The Pick catalogue distinguishes three dates for this rial, 1987, 1989 and 1994; the 1994 example (1414 in the Hijri calendar) is the last of them, P26c.
For an Oman collection the note fills the last date slot of the rial in the Sultan Qaboos series, and in a set of fortresses on world money it adds Sohar Fort. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
Every item in the VPcoins catalogue tells a small story about its country and era.
