2014 is the last date on Nicaragua’s steel 25 centavos: the next one was already the aluminium coin dated 2022, released into circulation in June 2023.
It is the 2014 issue that the Central Bank of Nicaragua cites as the reference for the current coin of this value: brass-plated steel, 23.25 millimetres, a segmented reeded edge. The arms side shows the triangle of equality, five volcanoes symbolising the union of the Central American nations, the rainbow of peace and the Phrygian cap of liberty, ringed by «REPÚBLICA DE NICARAGUA» and «AMÉRICA CENTRAL». The other side carries the value, the motto «EN DIOS CONFIAMOS» («In God we trust») and the date.
In a 25 centavos date run this coin closes the brass-plated steel era that began in 2002.
F-VF grade: the coin has circulated and the wear is pronounced, with the brass plating rubbed on the high spots, yet the design and lettering are legible.
