1972 was the last year Norway struck a 2 øre coin: the Kongsberg mint produced 15,897,984 bronze pieces with the black grouse, and with that the denomination came to an end.
Three years later, on 1 January 1975, the 2 øre lost its legal tender status together with the 1 øre. The male black grouse on the reverse is by the sculptor Per Palle Storm, who created the whole animal series of Olav V; the obverse shows the monogram «OV» under the crown, and the reverse legend reads «2 ØRE NORGE».
Very Fine condition: the coin has circulated and wear on the high points is visible, but all main details and inscriptions remain clear. For a 2 øre date run this is the closing year of the type — a coin that genuinely passed from hand to hand in the final years of Norway’s small change.
