Netherlands — set of 8 euro coins 2011
A set of eight standard circulating euro coins issued in 2011 by the Royal Dutch Mint (Utrecht). The coins represent the first series of national designs featuring the portrait of Queen Beatrix, which was used from 2002 to 2013. All coins were designed by Bruno Ninaber van Eyben.
Common obverse of all coins On the obverse is a portrait of Queen Beatrix facing right. Around the rim are twelve stars of the European Union and the inscription “BEATRIX KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN” (Beatrix, Queen of the Netherlands), as well as the year of issue.
The set reflects the monarchical tradition of the Netherlands and emphasizes the continuity of Queen Beatrix’s power. The stylized portrait created by Bruno Ninaber van Eyben is present on all denominations and symbolizes the national identity of the country within the eurozone. These designs remained in circulation until 2013, when after Beatrix’s abdication they were replaced by coins with the portrait of King Willem-Alexander.
