In Tajikistan the 1, 3 and 5 somoni circulate both as coins and as banknotes, and on both kinds of money the National Bank used the same portraits. The 2022 set gathers three of these coin «twins» together with the 50 diram.
The 1 somoni shows Mirzo Tursunzoda (1911–1977), poet and public and political figure; the 3 somoni Shirinsho Shotemur (1899–1937), Hero of Tajikistan and statesman; the 5 somoni Sadriddin Ayni (1878–1954), founder of modern Tajik literature. The other side of each coin shows the value in an ornamental frame.
The 50 diram is the highest of the diram coins: it bears the State Emblem with a crown under an arc of seven stars, and its edge alternates reeded and plain sections. The yellow brass plated steel coin sets off the three silvery nickel silver ones.
For a themed collection of people on coins, or a pairing of coin and banknote of the same value, this is a ready foundation: just add the three banknotes.
Grade UNC: the coins never circulated, show no wear and keep their mint lustre; only minor storage marks are acceptable.
At VPcoins we select coins for collectors of every level, from first steps in numismatics to filling the hardest gaps.
