The 2013 silver 1000 yen coin of Yamanashi Prefecture sets Mount Fuji and grapes beside a maglev train from the Yamanashi test line. That year mattered for the line: it had been extended to 42.8 km, and testing resumed with the new Series L0 train. The guideway follows the planned Chuo Shinkansen alignment between Tokyo and Nagoya, so the stretch shown on the coin is part of a real future route.
Fuji straddles Yamanashi's southern border with Shizuoka, and both prefectures chose the mountain for their silver coins in the programme in 2013. On the Yamanashi side lie the Fuji Five Lakes. The prefecture itself is landlocked, and its orchards include vineyards of the Koshu grape. Catalogue reference: Y# 203.
The programme marking the 60th anniversary of the Local Autonomy Law let each prefecture decide its own design concept, while the other side is shared: snow, moon and flowers. Struck in pure silver with a colour design and a mintage of 100,000, the coin has the mirror fields and frosted relief of a proof. This example comes in a souvenir pack with stamps.
