LONG GOD YUMI STANAP is Bislama for "With God we stand", the motto of the Vanuatu coat of arms adopted in 1980, when the islands became an independent republic. On this 2006 silver 50 vatu the arms share the coin with an event on a very different scale: the FIFA World Cup in Germany.
The emblem is packed with local symbolism. A Melanesian chief holding a spear stands before a mountain, the country's highest peak, with a curved boar's tusk behind him and two crossed namele leaves. Around it runs the state name in Bislama, RIPABLIK BLONG VANUATU.
The reverse switches to the language of the tournament: two footballers before a huge globe, the legend 2006 FIFA WORLD CUP GERMANY and the value 50 VATU. The coin is a full ounce of .999 silver.
For a football collection it adds a Pacific issuer to the 2006 tournament, and for collectors of national symbols it carries a coat of arms rich in local Pacific symbolism. Proof striking with polished dies gives a mirror field and frosted relief.
