Ivan Piddubnyi, the «strongman» wrestler from the Poltava region, never lost a championship in forty years of competing, and in 2021, for his 150th anniversary, the National Bank of Ukraine dedicated a commemorative 2 hryvnia coin to him. This example comes in a souvenir package.
The reverse is given to the portrait: Piddubnyi with the inscription «ІВАН ПІДДУБНИЙ 1871 1949». The obverse is built around a stylised medal on a ribbon encircling the globe, with bouts of wrestling on either side, «УКРАЇНСЬКИЙ БОГАТИР» above and «ЧЕМПІОН ЧЕМПІОНІВ» below, next to the small coat of arms, «УКРАЇНА» and the value «2 ГРИВНІ».
The coin was designed by Volodymyr Taran, Oleksandr Kharuk and Serhii Kharuk and sculpted by Sviatoslav Ivanenko and Anatolii Demianenko. It belongs to the «Outstanding Personalities of Ukraine» series, with a mintage of 35,000.
The packaged piece makes a good gift for an athlete or coach and a neat addition to a sport and wrestling collection. UNC condition: it has never circulated, and the package protects the relief of the medal and figures from scratches.
