NASA’s Mission Control in Houston has supported every American astronaut in space since it moved to Texas in 1965, and the 2025 Texas dollar is dedicated to it.
Mission Control itself does not appear on the coin: artist Ron Sanders shows the result of its work, an American astronaut on a spacewalk outside the International Space Station. As the U.S. Mint explains, the image stands for the economic, logistical and intellectual support Houston gives NASA’s human spaceflight program, and for international cooperation on the station. Mint Medallic Artist John P. McGraw sculpted the design; the inscriptions read «TEXAS» and «UNITED STATES OF AMERICA».
The coin was released on July 29, 2025, as the last 2025-dated dollar of the American Innovation program. The obverse carries the Statue of Liberty by Justin Kunz and Phebe Hemphill with «$1», «IN GOD WE TRUST» and a gear privy mark; the date, mint mark and «E PLURIBUS UNUM» are on the edge.
This coin was struck in Denver; the series’ dollars are sold to collectors in bank rolls and bags and are not released into circulation. For a space theme, the two 2025 coins, Texas and Florida with its shuttle, form a short story of American human spaceflight.
Uncirculated (UNC): the coin never circulated, shows no wear and keeps its mint lustre, allowing minor marks from storage in bank bags.
