Croatia 2 Euro 2025
This commemorative 2 euro coin was issued by the Croatian National Bank on 14 July 2025 to mark the 1100th anniversary of the Kingdom of Croatia and the coronation of King Tomislav. The national side was designed by sculptor Nikola Vudrag, and the coin was struck at the Croatian Mint.
The obverse depicts King Tomislav on horseback against a background of the Croatian chequered pattern — an element of the coat of arms of the Republic of Croatia. The inscription «KRALJ TOMISLAV 925. REPUBLIKA HRVATSKA 2025» runs around the coin. The edge is inscribed with «O LIJEPA O DRAGA O SLATKA SLOBODO» («O beautiful, O dear, O sweet freedom») — lines from the «Hymn to Freedom» featured in the pastoral play Dubravka by the 17th-century Croatian writer Ivan Gundulić.
The reverse carries the standard «2 EURO» design with a map of Europe.
Tomislav I was the first crowned ruler of Croatia, proclaimed king in 925. His reign marked the territorial and political zenith of the medieval Croatian state. The equestrian image traces back to the famous statue of King Tomislav in Zagreb, which previously appeared on the reverse of the Croatian 1,000 kuna banknote.
The VPcoins catalogue includes both modern commemorative issues and coins of past eras.
