Gibraltar 20 pence 2023 (Coronation of King Charles III)
A 20 pence coin issued in 2023 in Gibraltar as part of a new series of standard circulating coins dedicated to the coronation of King Charles III. It is part of the limited edition Definitive Collection 2023 Coronation of King Charles III and was minted to commemorate the official coronation on 6 May 2023.
On the obverse is a portrait of King Charles III by Raphael Maklouf facing left, without a crown. Around the rim is the inscription with the king’s name, the name of Gibraltar, the denomination and the year of issue.
On the reverse is depicted the Tudor Crown — a historic crown of the British monarchy. Around the rim is the inscription “LONG TO REIGN OVER US • GOD SAVE THE KING”.
The coin reflects the beginning of the new Carolean era in Gibraltar after Charles III’s accession to the throne. The issuance of this and other coins in the series emphasizes the loyalty of the British overseas territory to the monarchy and marks an important event in the history of the United Kingdom.
