With the Astros collection the Monnaie de Paris introduced something France had not issued before: bimetallic 5 euro coins. The first edition was dated 2025, with 25,000 pieces per sign; for 2026 the mint reissued all twelve signs with the new date and twice the mintage, 50,000 each. The series is the work of Joaquin Jimenez, the mint's General Engraver, and was planned from the start to return year after year.
Every coin follows the same layout: the sign and its constellation at the centre, a ring of all twelve zodiac symbols on the golden outer band. Libra receives a pair of scales entwined with ivy, a sun and a crescent moon on either side, and its constellation picked out against the stars. The common side frames EURO 5 between two branches, with RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE set within lines evoking the Hexagon.
The core is copper-nickel clad with nickel and the ring is nickel brass, catalogued as KM# 3482. Presented in a souvenir package; uncirculated, with no signs of circulation.
