The constellation of Taurus holds the two best-known star clusters in the sky: the Pleiades, the «Seven Sisters», and the Hyades, whose V-shaped scatter outlines the bull’s face, with the red giant Aldebaran as its eye. In Greek myth, Zeus turned himself into a white bull to carry off the Phoenician princess Europa. On this 2026 five-euro coin, the Monnaie de Paris presents Taurus as an earth sign.
At the centre is a powerful bust of a bull, its horns and forehead covered in arabesques. Around it are leaves, mushrooms and crystals — symbols of the earth element — and the constellation of Taurus is drawn against the stars. The wheel of twelve signs runs around the gold-coloured ring, where the Taurus symbol is larger than its neighbours and set on a frosted, sandblasted field.
The same bull also appeared in gold in 2026: for every sign the mint issued a tiny 5-euro coin of half a gram of 999 gold, 11 mm across, in proof quality. The bimetallic version is the most accessible way into the collection. It was designed by Joaquin Jimenez, Chief Engraver of the Monnaie de Paris; the denomination side shows the figure 5 between oak and laurel branches that form the euro symbol.
The collection is conceived as permanent and appears with new dates. The 2026 design repeats the first, 2025 one, while the mintage has doubled to 50,000 pieces. For a collector of the sign this is the second date in the run; as a gift, it is a coin for someone born under Taurus.
UNC means the coin has never circulated: there is no wear, the mint lustre is preserved and the arabesques on the bull’s horns are untouched.
The VPcoins catalogue includes both modern commemorative issues and coins of past eras.
