Pisces is the twelfth and last sign of the zodiac, yet in the sky its constellation marks a beginning: the March equinox point currently lies in Pisces. On this 2026 five-euro coin, the Monnaie de Paris set the sign in water — two long-finned fish swim in a circle beneath a starry sky traced with the outline of the constellation.
The right-hand side of the wheel of signs sinks into a wave, since water is the element of Pisces. The wheel itself is engraved on the gold-coloured ring of the bimetallic coin, and the Pisces symbol is impossible to miss: it is larger than its neighbours and sits on a frosted, sandblasted field. The ancient Greeks linked the constellation to Aphrodite and Eros, who turned into fish to escape the monster Typhon; the star where their tied tails meet bears the Arabic name Alrescha, «the cord».
The denomination side is shared by all twelve signs: the figure 5 between an oak branch and a laurel branch that together recall the euro symbol, the legend RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE and lines evoking the hexagon, the familiar image of France. The collection was designed by Joaquin Jimenez, Chief Engraver of the Monnaie de Paris.
The mint conceived the astrological collection as a permanent line reissued with new dates. The 2026 coin repeats the design of the first, 2025 issue, but its mintage is 50,000 pieces against 25,000 — twice as many. Pairing «Pisces 2025» with «Pisces 2026» is the natural next step for anyone collecting the series by year.
Uncirculated (UNC) condition: the coin has never been in circulation, shows no wear and keeps its mint lustre, including on the frosted sign symbol.
For those who collect coins by subject, whether wildlife, architecture, famous people or sport, the VPcoins catalogue offers other themed issues too.
