A seated kangaroo looks back over its shoulder at a eucalyptus tree on the horizon — the design by Ing Ing Jong for the Perth Mint gold coin of 2023.
The kangaroo appeared on the Mint’s gold bullion coins in 1990; the programme, launched in 1986, featured gold nuggets in its first years. Since then the kangaroo design has been renewed every year, so each date of the series looks different.
The reverse bears «2023 1/10oz 9999 GOLD» and «KANGAROO», the P mint mark and the initials IJ; the obverse carries the memorial portrait of Elizabeth II by Jody Clark with the dates «1952 - 2022». The coin contains one tenth of an ounce of .9999 gold, face value 15 dollars; mintage 54,983.
In the Mint’s words, gold Kangaroos have been trusted worldwide for more than three decades for their weight and purity. The coin was supplied in a protective acrylic capsule.
UNC grade: the coin never circulated, there is no wear and the mint lustre is intact; only minor storage marks are acceptable.
Collectors who focus on a single country will find its other issues in the VPcoins catalogue as well.
