Morocco’s football banknote came out on 22 December 2025: Bank Al-Maghrib issued a commemorative 100 dirhams for the 35th Africa Cup of Nations, hosted by the kingdom. A 250 dirham silver coin was issued on the same day alongside the note.
The front shows, beside the portrait of Mohammed VI and the coat of arms, a stylised Prince Moulay Abdellah sports complex in Rabat, a map of Africa, a Moroccan arabesque and a football. The back takes us into the stands: an interior view of the stadium, silhouettes of players in action, a ball bearing the map of Africa and festive stars amid intertwined Moroccan and African ornaments. The bank’s name appears here in Latin script and in Tifinagh, the alphabet of the Amazigh (Berber) languages.
The note was issued in a limited number, yet it is legal tender and circulates alongside the regular 100 dirhams. Its security matches that of circulating notes: a security thread with colour-changing windows, front-to-back see-through register images, colour-shifting inks, raised marks for the visually impaired and microtext. All the work, from design to printing, was carried out by the national works Dar As-Sikkah.
A commemorative note for the African football championship, it is a key piece for a «football on banknotes» set and a notable page of recent history in a Morocco collection. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
