The sailing boat on the 10 laari is a traditional Maldivian vessel, and in 2012 the subject was given a new, compact form. That year the Maldives Monetary Authority redesigned the 5 and 10 laari: the earlier scalloped coin with twelve notches around the rim gave way to a small round piece.
The boat is shown with all sails set, flanked by the dates «2012» and «١٤٣٣» (the Hijri year 1433), with a marine-knot pattern and the abbreviation «MMA» below. On the other side the value is superimposed on a map of the archipelago, and the country name appears in Latin and Thaana script: «ދިވެހި ރާއްޖޭ».
The coin was struck by the Royal Mint in Britain. For a collection it is the first year of the new 10 laari type and a fine companion to the scalloped coin of the 1980s–2000s: one denomination, one subject, two different looks.
UNC grade: the coin never circulated, shows no wear and keeps its mint lustre; only minor bag marks from bank storage are acceptable.
The VPcoins online shop was created for collectors of coins and banknotes who value a wide choice.
