A portrait of President Bakili Muluzi on Malawi’s 10 tambala of 1995 replaced the earlier profile of Hastings Banda on this value, while the bundle of maize cobs on the reverse stayed the same: according to Numista, the type was struck from 1995 to 2003.
The obverse shows Bakili Muluzi in profile facing right with the legend «MALAŴI». The reverse carries a bundle of maize cobs dividing the value «10» and the date «1995», with «TAMBALA» below and the initials «P.V.» of the engraver Paul Vincze.
The nickel-plated steel coin, weighing 5.62 g and measuring 23.6 mm, was struck by the Royal Mint in Llantrisant; the edge is reeded and it is catalogued as KM# 27.
The 1995 coin opens the date run of the Muluzi portrait type and sits well next to the 10 tambala of the Banda era. AU-UNC condition: there are almost no signs of circulation, at most faint rubbing on the highest points of the relief, and the lustre is almost fully preserved.
