The first euro set of a new ruler: in 2026 Grand Duke Guillaume, who came to the throne on 3 October 2025, appeared on Luxembourg’s coins for the first time. All eight denominations received new designs, and the first 2 euro coin of the series was struck on 7 July 2026 by the Grand Duke himself.
The new national sides were drawn by Chiara Principe, an artist specialising in the design of circulation and collector coins; her initials CP appear on every denomination. The 1, 2 and 5 cents show part of the portrait with a stylised national flag, the 10, 20 and 50 cents a full portrait beside the flag, and the 1 and 2 euro Guillaume’s profile with a modern rendering of the Luxembourg lion created for this series. As before, the country name is in Luxembourgish: «LËTZEBUERG».
The series was struck by the Paris Mint at its Pessac plant near Bordeaux, bringing Luxembourg’s euros back to where they had already been made in 2007–2008. Production across the eight denominations totals 12.16 million coins. The Central Bank of Luxembourg began releasing them on 13 July 2026.
The set opens a new chapter in a Luxembourg euro date run and pairs naturally with the final year of Henri’s coins. UNC condition: the coins have never circulated, show no wear and keep their mint lustre, with only minor handling marks possible.
