The Hainan black crested gibbon is described as the most critically endangered ape on the planet: the whole species survives only in the Bawangling reserve on Hainan Island. This gibbon is one of the protagonists of the 2025 10 yuan devoted to the Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park.
The reverse presents the park’s nature: Hainan gibbons, the Hainan peacock-pheasant, Wuzhi Mountain and the Wanquan River, with the legend HAINAN REDAI YULIN GUOJIA GONGYUAN, «Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park», and the value. The obverse shows the PRC national emblem, the country name and the year.
The park was included in China’s first list of national parks, published on 12 October 2021, and the coin entered circulation on 17 June 2025 in 50 million pieces, following Sanjiangyuan and the Giant Panda in 2023 and the Tiger and Leopard park in 2024. It is bimetallic, a copper-nickel centre in a brass ring, and a rare subject for a collection of primates and birds on coins.
Condition UNC: the coin has never circulated, shows no wear and keeps its mint lustre.
If you collect coins by country or by theme, take a look at the VPcoins catalogue: it is a convenient place to find the neighbouring pieces of a series.
