A satellite in orbit around the Earth and the dates 1957–2007: the 2007 coin marks the 50th anniversary of the first artificial Earth satellite.
Kazakhstan’s dedicated space coinage is no accident: Baikonur, from which the first satellite and the first cosmonaut were launched, lies on its territory. The country’s National Bank issued the nickel silver 50 tenge Space coins year after year, from the first steps of spaceflight to interplanetary probes.
Sputnik 1 was launched from Baikonur on 4 October 1957.
The coin fills the First Satellite place in the series and suits space-themed collections and sets of Kazakh coins. Uncirculated (UNC) condition means the coin has never been in circulation: there is no wear and the mint lustre is intact.
The VPcoins catalogue includes both modern commemorative issues and coins of past eras.
