Before the ceremony the boy was seated on a horse, and afterwards he was showered with gifts: this is how the National Bank of Kazakhstan describes sündet toi, an ancient Kazakh custom that became a national tradition. The 2020 100 tenge coin inscribed SÚNDET TOI continued the «Customs and National Games of Kazakhstan» series.
The reverse shows the festive ceremony framed by a stylised shanyrak, the ring that crowns the dome of a yurt, and Kazakh ornament, together with the National Bank logo and the year of minting. The obverse carries the state emblem of the Republic of Kazakhstan on an ornamental field.
The design was issued in three versions: a silver 500 tenge in proof quality with a mintage of 3,500, and two 100 tenge coins. The nickel silver one, 31 mm across, was struck in 100,000 pieces. This coin is the larger cupronickel version: 33 mm, 15 g, brilliant uncirculated quality and a mintage of only 15,000, almost seven times smaller. The coins came out in December 2020 alongside the «Belka · Strelka» issue.
In a collection of Kazakh customs, this coin stands for the initiation of a future dzhigit, one of the great family celebrations. Condition UNC: the coin has never circulated, shows no wear and keeps its mint lustre.
