The Bank of Canada issued the polymer 50 dollars of the Frontiers series on 26 March 2012; all notes of this type carry the date 2012 and differ in their signatures. This note is variety P109c, signed by Carolyn Wilkins and Tiff Macklem, a pairing used after Macklem became Governor in 2020.
The front shows William Lyon Mackenzie King, Prime Minister of Canada in 1921–1930 and 1935–1948, and a transparent window with a small portrait of him and a tower of the Centre Block of Parliament, along with «BANK OF CANADA», «BANQUE DU CANADA» and the signatures.
The back shows the Canadian Coast Guard research icebreaker Amundsen against a map of northern Canada with the Arctic Archipelago and a compass rose, the word «Arctic» in Inuktitut and the caption «CCGS AMUNDSEN, RESEARCH ICEBREAKER».
According to Numista, variety P109c was printed in 70 million pieces; the notes were printed by BA International and the Canadian Bank Note Company. It is a piece for a signature run of the Canadian polymer series and for a «ships and the Arctic» theme. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
