Sir Donald Sangster, whose portrait fills the front of this note, rose from the law to the head of government. Born in the parish of St. Elizabeth in 1911 and educated at Munro College, he was admitted to the Court of Judicature in 1937 and elected to the House of Representatives in 1949. A year later he was Minister of Social Welfare and the first Deputy Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party.
Finance was his long-running portfolio: he held it from 1953 and again after independence in 1962. Sangster acted as Prime Minister in 1964 during Sir Alexander Bustamante's illness, took the office in February 1967 and died on 11 April that year.
The back is given to Dunn's River Falls in St. Ann. This 1987-dated note, P74, belongs to the 1986–1987 type printed by De La Rue and signed by Bank of Jamaica Governor Headley Brown. The Bank of Jamaica's cotton-paper $100 notes ceased to be legal tender on 1 July 2025.
Uncirculated (UNC): the note has never been in circulation.
