A 2002 coin from the «Life of the Queen Mother» series devoted to the Castle of Mey in Scotland, which the Queen Mother bought in 1952 and restored. Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, wife of King George VI and mother of Elizabeth II, lived to 101 and remained one of the best-loved figures of the British monarchy; the series traces episodes of her life in turn. The Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown Dependency in the Irish Sea. Its crowns are legal tender on the island but are not released into circulation: they are coins made for collectors from the outset, struck by the private British Pobjoy Mint. The obverse bears a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
